Deadline for Legislative Proposals Extended for Young People’s Gathering

NASHVILLE, Tenn. Jan. 30, 2014 /GBOD/ – Delegates planning to attend the Global Young People’s Convocation and Legislative Assembly now have additional time to submit legislative proposals they would like to have adopted at the July gathering in the Philippines.

The deadline for submitting legislative proposals has been extended until Feb. 14, said Michael Ratliff, Associate General Secretary at the General Board of Discipleship (GBOD) and head of Young People’s Ministries division.

“Petitions from young people throughout the church will be considered for possible adoption and referral during the legislative assembly at Tagaytay in the Philippines,” Ratliff said.

Organized by Young People’s Ministries, the quadrennial convocation and legislative assembly scheduled for July 16-20 is a place where United Methodist young people from around the world worship, pray and work together.

Petitions considered at the legislative assembly could find their way onto the docket for the 2016 General Conference. The process is designed as a way for UMC young people to have a collective voice and a direct avenue for submission of supported proposals to the General Conference.

Proposals submitted by the Feb. 14 deadline will be translated and distributed for consideration at the assembly. For more information about the format for petition submissions and how to submit the documents, go to http://bit.ly/1bw5MNb.

Registration for the convocation and legislative assembly is now open to all young people and adult leaders. For more information and to register, go to http://bit.ly/1ajvckd. Questions regarding registration should be directed to gypcla@gbod.org.

GBOD’s mission is to support annual conference and local church leaders for their task of equipping world-changing disciples.
